You Choose How You Want to Live
At NOR Independent & Supported Living Services LLC, we support individuals with developmental disabilities in building the skills and confidence needed to live as independently as possible — while receiving the right level of support.
Whether you need occasional guidance or daily assistance, we help you create a lifestyle that reflects your goals, your choices, and your independence.
About the Programs
Independent Living Services (ILS)
Independent Living Services (ILS), as defined by the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and administered through regional centers such as San Diego Regional Center (SDRC), are designed to help individuals with developmental disabilities live as independently as possible in their own homes and communities.
Independent Living focuses on teaching and supporting essential life skills rather than providing hands-on care. Services are individualized and based on each person's goals, strengths, and needs. Supports may include skill-building in areas such as:
Budgeting and money management
Meal planning and cooking
Medication self-management
Personal safety
Household management
Transportation use
Communication
Accessing community resources
The goal of Independent Living is to increase self-sufficiency, choice, and independence while promoting dignity, autonomy, and community integration. Individuals receiving ILS typically live in their own homes, apartments, or with family or roommates, and are empowered to make decisions about their daily lives with guidance and coaching from trained staff.
Supported Living Services (SLS)
Supported Living Services (SLS) are services funded by the California Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and coordinated through regional centers such as San Diego Regional Center (SDRC). SLS are designed to support adults with developmental disabilities in living in their own homes with the assistance they need to remain safe, healthy, and engaged in their communities.
Supported Living Services provide individualized, ongoing support that may include assistance with:
Daily living activities and personal care
Medication support and health and safety needs
Household management and budgeting
Meal preparation
Transportation
Accessing community resources
Services are tailored to the individual's needs and can vary in frequency and intensity, including 24-hour support when necessary.
The goal of Supported Living Services is to help individuals live independently in homes of their choice while maintaining control over their lives. SLS emphasizes person-centered planning, choice, dignity, and inclusion — allowing individuals to make decisions about their daily routines, living arrangements, and supports while receiving the level of assistance they need to be successful.
