Where Compassion

Meets Community

Our Story

NOR Companies was founded by Amel and Najah Rzok, a Chaldean immigrant couple originally from Iraq. Their journey began in the mid-1970s when they moved to Germany to pursue higher education and later continued in the United States after immigrating in the 1980s. Their personal experiences shaped a deep understanding of resilience, cultural connection, and community responsibility.

In 2010, NOR Companies launched its first program, the Adults in the Community Day Program, marking the beginning of a growing network of services. Over time, NOR expanded to include respite services, tailored day programs, residential services, and a wide range of supportive programs. Today, NOR operates multiple adult residential facilities and community-based services across San Diego, Imperial Counties, with expansion into Los Angeles, with continued growth focused on innovation, accessibility, and long-term community impact.

Nearly two decades ago, guided by compassion, faith, and a strong sense of service, Amel and Najah began working as caregivers and job coaches. What started as supporting immigrant families raising children with special needs quickly revealed a much broader need. Individuals from all backgrounds were struggling to access the services, resources, and advocacy they deserved, inspiring a commitment to serve the wider underserved community.
